Chambersburg Police are investigating loud explosion

The Chambersburg Police Department is investigating a loud explosion that was heard over the weekend.

Officers received a 911 call on Saturday around 11:28 p.m. about a loud explosion in the area of Franklin and Miller Streets.

Police say they found remnants of a large PVC type pipe that had launched a mortar type round into the air. Parts of the item that exploded were found on the roof of 337 West King Street.

Police say the untrained person ignited the device could have been severely hurt or killed or homes in the area could have been ignited from falling debris.
