YORK -- For the past eight years, the Community Courier, the weekly newspaper that serves York County and beyond has hosted a day at the York Fair, typically on Monday near the beginning of the fair's 10-ten day run.

Part of their activities for that day are the great prize giveaways for those who drop off canned good donations for the York County Food Bank and their member agencies, located on West Princess Street in the city.

This year the Courier collected 1,613 pounds of food for the food bank. Last year it collected 945 pounds.

One young girl that day brought in 80 pieces of food and dry goods. Another person came back 27 different times, earning more chances at the prize drawings, but more importantly helping combat hunger in York County.

Since 2008, the Community Courier has raised approximately 4,870 pounds of canned and dry goods.Community Courier raises 1,600 pounds of food for Food Bank
