Family and friends are mourning death of Hauson Baltimore-Greene Jr.

"He was my best friend, he was everything," said Ijianique Simmons, Greene's girlfriend.

He was shot on the front porch of a home Saturday night in the 1st block of North 16th Street.

"Officers responded to the area for a report of shots fired. Within a minute or two of getting the call they arrived on scene and there's a young man that was shot," said Harrisburg Police Captain Colin Cleary.

Officers tell us he was taken to Harrisburg Hospital, where he died, making him the victim in the city's first homicide of 2014.

A neighbor CBS 21 News talked to, who asked to remain anonymous, says it's another violent act in a violent community.

"It's sad I live right there on the second floor you know and these kids they shoot guns, like it could've been my 6 year old," they said.

That same resident said once he heard the shots, he ran over to the porch.

"That could've been one of my kids. I just wanted to make sure that he was all right," they said.

Greene was a student at Steelton-Highspire High School.

Mayor Eric Papenfuse expressed his condolences to the family saying, "We share the pain of the family in the death of this young man and call upon our city to support them in their grief. We must find a way to stop the violence that is claiming too many of our young people. If we work together, we can save our children and stop the violence that is claiming far too many young lives.

Coming together, a sentiment felt strongly on this block.
"We just don't need to be worried about the budget we need to be worried about getting these kids. Give them something positive to do you know on weekend nights and parents just take more control of the streets." said our anonymous resident.

Police have not released any possible suspects and are asking that anyone with any information to contact them.
