Volunteers in Harrisburg spent much of their morning beautifying a park in Harrisburg’s Allison Hill.

Organized by Wells Fargo employees, over a hundred people helped to rejuvenate a park lot along Derry Street near Kittatiny Street.

The volunteers were joined by the Community Action Commission and residents from South Allison Hill as part of the efforts to brighten up the park. They installed outdoor musical instruments like a xylophone and drums.

“It’s my neighborhood,” said Daniel Davis, who has lived in the area for a few years. “I like to take care of it.”

Kelly Smith, the Wells Fargo Central Pennsylvania community bank area president, said she’s seen the vision of the park for months now. On Saturday afternoon, the vision soon became a reality. Volunteers installed benches, outdoor instruments and a stage where they hope the music will embrace the diversity of the community.

“I think the goal is for the community to continue to help and enhance this beautiful center we’re putting together,” Smith said.

“It starts with a seed, maybe it doesn’t bear fruit today, but it can bear fruit with the children as they come up and learn that they will take better care of their neighborhood,” said Davis.

The beautification project was part of the Heart on the Hill Community Day that included a ribbon cutting and a community festival.
