Harrisburg School District finds extra funds

Updated: Tuesday, October 15 2013, 04:42 PM CDT
The Harrisburg School District found an extra $11.6 million in the district's funds.

According to the district's Recovery Officer Gene Veno, the district was supposed to come up $4.5 million short this year. But that's not the case.

Now that all the extra money was uncovered, questions are being raised about district pay cuts, layoffs and healthcare increases that were passed this year.

Veno says the funds were uncovered after reorganizing bond money.  He says the business office over estimated its expenses, causing the massive surplus.

Veno is now trying to fix the school district's recovery plan to reflect the new funds. He hopes to use the money to fix budget cuts and prevent tax increases next year.

He will release a report within the next 10 days.Harrisburg School District finds extra funds
