How do police decide to issue Amber Alerts?

HARRISBURG -- In the past few months, missing children have made headlines not only nationwide, but also right here in our own backyard.

In some cases, Amber Alerts were issued; in others, they were not.

Tonight, CBS 21 looked into why -- what type of missing children case constitutes an Amber Alert?

State police have a specific set of criteria:

- Police have to have reasonable belief an abduction occurred- The child must be in imminent danger of serious injury or death

- There must be enough descriptive information about the victim to help recover the victim- The child must be younger than 18How do police decide to issue Amber Alerts?
