As you go out to party this holiday weekend, police will be out too, looking for drunk or high drivers.
It's part of a national effort to keep you safer on the roads. There will be random police checkpoints through Labor Day, with drug recognition experts as well as State and local police.

"We are finding more drugs, in the system when we arrest for driving under the influence. A good number of them are people who are on prescription drugs," said Lieutenant Greg Thomas, Lower Allen Township Police.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation statistics show that in 2011, there were 3,079 drug-related crashes, 116 of those were fatalities. And in 2012, those numbers went up to 3306 drug-related crashes, with 126 fatalities statewide.

And last Labor Day weekend, there were 125 alcohol-related crashes and eight fatalities and 30 drug-related crashes.

Police say a sobering fact is that if you're involved in an alcohol-related crash, you are four times more likely to die in that crash.Labor Day weekend DUI checkpoints
