ARENDSTVILLE -- An Adams County man is facing charges after he allegedly shot a 14-year-old in the foot after the teen rang his doorbell as a prank.

State police say Eric Lee Steinhour, 28, of Biglerville, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.

Steinhour allegedly fired a gun at a two teenagers around 2 a.m. on Friday morning, after the teens had been ringing doorbells as a prank. State police say Steinhour confronted the teens and then fired the shot into an alley as the teens ran away.

While the teens were hiding, the 14-year-old discovered he had been struck in the right foot and left leg. Police say the victim's mother arrived and took him to Gettysburg Hospital for treatment.

Neighbors tell CBS 21 News that the act of the "ding, dong, ditch" pranks have been happening for some time throughout the neighborhoods.

Richard Price has long lived in the area.

"It's upsetting, it's shocking," said Price.

A light sleeper, Price did not hear the activity happen, but had heard about it throughout the small, quiet town.

"Now his life is in a bad situation and the kids and the families and nobody wins," said Price.

Emily Solainde, 16, was half-asleep when she heard one or two gunshots fired not too far from her home. She thought she was dreaming but realized it was the way to shooter responded to the prank when her friends were talking about it at school.

"Why was the guy awake at that hour with a gun and chasing these kids?," she said.

Although she did not agree with the prank itself, she said the accused shooter may have gone too far.

"Do we have to go to these extremes?," she asked.

State police officers searched the area and found Steinhour outside of an acquaintance's home. Police said Steinhour admitted to firing the shot to scare off the kids. He was arrested and taken to Adams County Prison on a $50,000 bail which he was not able to post Friday night.

The victim is being treated for non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be okay.
