Man flees police stop, crashes into police car

COLUMBIA -- A motorist who failed to stop for a red light violation crashed into a marked police car and ended up in the hospital on New Year's Day.

Columbia Borough Police attempted to stop a car for a red light violation at Third and Locust Streets around 1:18 a.m. today.

The driver failed to stop and crashed into a marked Columbia Borough Police car at the intersection of Third and Union Streets. Both the suspect and Columbia Borough Police Sergeant Marc Tremblay were transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Tremblay was treated for minor injuries and released. The suspect was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Both cars sustained severe damage. The suspect was involved in another open investigation in a neighboring jurisdiction that Columbia Police were not aware of at the time they saw the vehicle. 

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the vehicle collision.

The name of the suspect and nature of the open investigation will be released at the discretion of the investigating agency.Man flees police stop, crashes into police car
