A man, who police say was involved in more than 100 burglaries in Central PA, was back in court on Friday, facing different charges.  The additional charges come after he tried to escape from jail.

Officials say Dwayne Weir, who has been in jail since 2011 will go to trial next week on dozens of burglary charges and for trying to escape from prison.

Leading up to his arrest in August of 2011, he led police on a two-week long manhunt through the Susquehanna Valley.  This career criminal ended up captured in a wooded area in Dauphin County.

Since then he’s been in the Lancaster County Prison awaiting trial on those charges.  But back in May he tried to escape.   Police say Weir made a rope ladder out of bed sheets.  He then wrapped it around his body and tried to conceal it with his clothing.  But the DA’s office got a tip and Weir was caught.

A 36-foot-long rope was also found in his cell, which he told officers he planned to use to hang himself.

Weir has already been found guilty of one burglary charge in Lancaster County. That trial was held last month.  He pleaded guilty to other charges last week in Dauphin County.
