Man shot in Lancaster City after altercation

On Saturday January 11 around 3:30am officers from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were dispatched to 9 Pearl Street, for a reported burglary in progress. While on the way, officers were told that there had been a fight and that a person had been shot.  

Arriving officers were told that the suspect had fled the residence. Officers spotted a subject matching the description of the suspect, the subject ran and tried to hide, but officers were able to locate the suspect and took him into custody without further incident. He was identified as Joshua Diaz-Maldanado. He was found to be in possession of a pair of brass knuckles when he was searched by police.

Other officers responded directly to the location of the shooting and found a 29-year-old Lancaster man suffering from a gunshot wound, inside the apartment. The officers determined that the male had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The victim underwent surgery for his injuries and is currently listed in critical condition.

Detectives conducted numerous interviews and gathered information for the investigation. Investigators learned that the shooting was the result of a dispute that occurred inside one of the apartments, involving several people. It was determined that the victim did not live there and was visiting friends when the incident occurred.

As a result of this investigation 24-year-old Joshua Maldonado is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and carrying firearms without a license.

LANCASTER CITY -- According to Lancaster City police, a man shot another man on Pearl Street in Lancaster City after an altercation early this morning.

The victim was shot once and is in surgery in critical condition.
