One dead in fatal crash in Paradise Twp

PARADISE -- One man is dead following a two-vehicle collision on Strasburg Road, Paradise Township, Lancaster County, just before 9 a.m. today.

The crash occurred as a Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Kenneth James, 37, of Gap was traveling west on Strasburg Road and a 1999 Ford F-450 Super Duty pick-up truck driven by Daniel Van Aulen, 69, of Lancaster was traveling east.

James' car drifted across the double yellow line of the road. Van Aulen swerved toward the fog line in an effort to avoid a collision, but James' Jetta struck Van Aulen's pick-up truck on the front and rear passenger-side.

The Jetta then spun counter-clockwise and came to rest in a driveway.

James, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was extricated from the vehicle by Paradise Fire Department and taken to Lancaster General Hospital with trauma-releated injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Neither Van Aulen nor his passenger, Steven Esh, 22, of Ronks, were injured in the crash. Van Aulen was wearing a seat belt, Esh was not.One dead in fatal crash in Paradise Twp
