One dead in shooting in Franklin County

FAYETTEVILLE -- One man is dead and another is in the hospital after an early-morning attempted burglary went wrong.

The incident happened around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of Mount Cydonia Road, Fayetteville.

State police say Janorris Hughes, 21, arrived at the home, owned by Mickle Shaffer, armed with a rifle. Hughes attempted to rob Shaffer and other people at the residence.

One of those people, Terry Fulton, fought with Hughes. During the fight, Fulton suffered three gunshot wounds from the .22-calibre rifle.

Fulton and Hughes then fled the scene. Shaffer obtained the rifled, found Hughes, and shot him in the lower back.

Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:48 a.m. Fulton is being treated for his gunshot wounds at York Hospital.

Shaffer was arrested and charged with homicide. He's being held at Franklin County Prison without bail.
