PennDOT and residents prepping for latest winter storm

As PennDOT prepares for the snow, folks who live in the Susquehanna Valley are getting ready too.

CBS21 News found out that hardware stores are selling out of salt and shovels fast.

"This is all the ice melt we have left," Steve Merino shows us a very low stock pile of ice melt and water softener salt at Hornung's Ace Hardware in Dauphin County.

And they are completely out of snow blowers. But that wasn't the case last winter, when they struggled to sell snow supplies.

"Last year we didn't have a big winter so we had an over abundance of snow shovels, snow blowers, those are pretty much all gone," said Merino.

Other hot items people are stocking up on include de-icers for car locks and shoe grippers.

"They're actually slip on wires that go on shoes so if you're walking on ice you're not slipping. Unfortunately we're sold out of those and we aren't getting any more of those in," said Merino.

On the bright side. The store has plenty of grills and things for Spring, whenever that season finally decides to arrive.
