HARRISBURG -- Temperatures today didn't get much above 30, but that didn’t stop PETA representatives from fighting for their cause wearing nothing but lettuce bikinis.

CBS 21 news was there today as they handed out free vegan wraps outside of city hall.

Their message was going vegan and eating more plant based meals will help the capital city save even more money by lowering the obesity rate and cutting down on medical costs.

"We brought vegan wraps from Tropical Smoothie Café. They have something in them called "beyond meat" that tastes just like chicken but it's plant-based and when people try these, we tell them that it's never been easier to eat a plant-based diet. It's delicious and healthy on top of being cruelty free," Ashley Byrne, one of the PETA representatives, said.

The women say they wore the lettuce bikinis to grab people's attention. The "lettuce ladies" say that going vegan saves the lives of more than 100 animals every year in addition to helping fight diseases. PETA reps wear lettuce bikinis to raise vegan awareness
