BETHEL TOWNSHIP -- State Police in Jonestown are investigating the cause of a crash involving a police cruiser.

It happened Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm on I-78 West near mile marker 4.7 and 4.8 in Bethel Township, Lebanon County.

Police say an RV being driven by 44-year-old William Miller of Harrisburg was traveling behind a tractor and trailer being driven by 65-year-old Donald Kershner.

The officer, Trooper First Class John Petrone, was parked in the shoulder checking on a disabled motorist. When Kershner saw the officer, he began to slow down. Miller was unable to slow down his RV and swerved into the shoulder to avoid hitting Kershner.

When Miller saw Petrone's cruiser, he then swerved back onto the interstate to avoid hitting the cruiser. Miller ended up hitting both vehicles.

Trooper Petrone was able to get himself out of his vehicle and was sent to Hershey Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Miller, Kershner and the occupants of the disabled vehicle Trooper Petrone was checking on, were all uninjured.
