Police seize heroin in Cumberland County

MECHANICSBURG -- Two men are behind bars and police are looking for another man after police conducted an undercover investigation leading to the seizure of over 1,000 bags of heroin in Cumberland County.

Cumberland County District Attorney, David Freed, held a press conference today announcing the Cumberland County Drug Task Force along with a State Police SWAT team seized nearly ten sticks of heroin from Patrick Molle’s home in Carlisle, and Niles Levin’s apartment in Mechanicsburg.

“Each stick contains 10 bundles of heroin, each bundle contains 14 bags.” Freed said.

In total, police seized 1,365 bags of heroin along with multiple guns, money, and other drug paraphernalia.

Freed said the man they believe delivered the heroin to Cumberland County from Philadelphia, Noel Cuevas, is still on the loose.

“We’ve obtained a warrant for Cuevas, he’s still at large, police are searching for him.” Freed said.

Authorities say this drug bust was a very successful one because they seized the drugs before they could be distributed on the streets, but law enforcement say even though they’re fighting the heroin problem, it’s worse than ever before.

“Heroin’s never been more plentiful that what I’ve seen in the last year or so.” David Spotts, Chief of Police at the Mechanicsburg Police Department, said.
“We’re seeing more and more heroin on the streets,” Freed added. “We’re seeing more and more people die as a result of heroin all over the state.”

Freed says the growth of heroin use is largely stemming from prescription drug abuse.

“When they can’t get (prescription drugs) or when those become too expensive, they move on to heroin, which is cheaper and more plentiful.” Freed said.

The rise in heroin use is urging police to ask for the public’s help. If you see any suspicious activity, police ask you to report it, even if you want to do it anonymously.
