YORK – Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley announced a special election in March for voters to fill a vacant York County state Senate seat -- but not everyone is happy about it.

York County Commissioner Chris Reilly says he's against having the special election to replace Mike Waugh so close to the primary election. The primary election is May 20; the special election is scheduled for March 18.

He says it's an inconvenience to county employees, voters, and polling place workers, as well as having an additional cost to taxpayers.

"I appreciate Lt. Gov. Cawley's position that York County needs representation in the state Senate, but I feel the cost to taxpayers and logistical challenges it places on our elections office outweighs the benefit of that representation," Reilly said.

Waugh resigned from his position earlier this month to take the position as director at the Farm Show Complex.Special election scheduled for vacant York Co. senate seat
