FORT INDIANTOWN GAP -- The PA National Guard at Fort Indiantown Gap held a dedication ceremony on Saturday for a ten foot tall Minuteman Statue.

"Minutemen" was the name given to members of well prepared militia companies during the Revolutionary War due to their ability to immediately respond to threats.

Minutemen, along with a professional small standing army was the model for U.S. land forces up until 1916.

Major General Wesley Craig commented on the statue, "It says an awful lot. It's the farmer who's leaving his field on a moments notice. Leaving his family and farm behind. Grabbing his rifle and going off to defend his country, which is exactly what we do in the National Guard.

The statue was donated by the PA National Guards Associations.Statue dedication in honor of "Minutemen Militia"
