A 16-year-old male is in custody related to two attempted armed robberies just off of York College’s campus.

Police say he was arrested in the process of a third attempted robbery.

York City Police say all three incidents happened in or near the 200 block of West Jackson Street.

Students were notified of the first crime Friday.  Just before 3:00p.m., a car load of students reported someone had approached their car with a knife and demanded money. The group was able to drive off without being injured or giving away money.

Then on Tuesday, police say a female student reported someone matching the same description threatened her with a knife demanding money around 8 in the evening.  Stephani Lane lives in the home where it happened, “She walked up on the porch and she was waiting for someone to unlock the door and the guy came up to her and held a knife to her.  He was like ‘give me all your money!’"  The student was able to run inside when someone opened the door.

Mary Dolheimer, with York College’s Office of Communications, says the school funds a police substation on West Jackson Street. “We are trying to ensure there is a good presence on that street.  Campus safety officers offer an addition patrol on a regular basis in that area,” she explains.

Police say the 16 year old has admitted to the attempted robberies on Friday and Tuesday.

He is being charged with three counts of robbery.

Police say the teen had a knife on him when he was taken into custody.
