Officials tell CBS 21 that on Feb. 6th, 2014, EMS providers were called to 300 block of Lakewood Drive in Middle Paxton Township, Dauphin County and found an elderly woman lying on the concrete carport, disoriented.

When EMS got to the home, Kathy Hope, 58, and Elena Mishula, 30, allegedly refused to let them into the home.

When the victim was taken to Harrisburg Hospital doctors discovered she was suffering from hypothermia, sepsis, hypertension, bed sores, and other medical conditions. According to officials, the victim had not been given her medications in months and she remains in the hospital.

Detectives obtained a search warrant to enter the home and observed horrible conditions including rotten food, trash, animal excrement and diapers throughout the home. Police say the home was unfit for habitation.

District Attorney Ed Marsico announced today that the Criminal Investigation Division of the District Attorney’s Office has filed criminal charges against Hope and Mishula for neglecting to care for their 88-year-old relative, resulting in serious injuries to the woman.
