NEWBERRY TOWNSHIP -- Fire crews were on the scene of two separate fires in York County this afternoon.

One fire happened on Railroad Avenue near Cly Road and River Drive, Newberry Township.

The resident, a 60-year-old man, was home when the stove caught fire. He thought he put it out, but then he saw the back of the house go up in flames.

The man is an avid hunter and had a significant amount of ammunition and guns in the house. The ammunition exploded, which made the fire worse.

Because of the location of the house, there were no fire hydrants in the area, which made it difficult for fire crews to extinguish the fire.

Two pets passed away, but one was able to escape.

The man lives with his children and grandchildren, none of whom were home at the time of the fire.  Officials say 9 people were displaced.

A second fire was reported four houses down. It was a chimney fire, unrelated to the first fire. Two fires reported in same neighborhood, unrelated
