Two men steal TVs, crash getaway vehicle into house

LANCASTER -- What started as a TV theft ended with a truck smashing into the front of a home in Lancaster City.   Police responded to a report of a car into a home Sunday night just after 10 p.m. in the 100 block of North Ann Street.

When they arrived, police found an empty truck with a 50-inch flat screen TV in the back.

Upon further investigation, police found that the TV was one of two stolen from Wal-Mart earlier in the day. Each TV was valued at more than $1,000 after taxes.

No one inside the home was hurt, but substantial damage was done to the home.

The couple who lives at the home, Jody and Don Davis, were both home at the time of the crash. Don was standing about 10 feet from where the wall came caving in, and he believes if it wasn’t for a large radiator stopping the truck, that he may have been killed.

The couple ran outside the house, fearing that the wall could come tumbling down, and when they got outside, neighbors told them that two people inside the truck had gotten out and fled the scene.

The truck was left running with the engine revving until a neighbor turned it off.  At this time, police do not know the whereabouts of the suspects, but they are working with the Wal-Mart in East Lampeter Township to get surveillance video to help them identify the suspects, who have been described as one white male and one black male.

Jody Davis says she hopes police find the men so they can move on with their life. “We’re going to pray that everything will work out,” she said. “We’re thankful for nobody being hurt.”

If you have any information regarding the theft at the Wal-Mart in East Lampeter Township or have any information regarding the crash in Lancaster City, you should contact police.
