Police are investigating an attempted murder suicide at a home in Fairview Township, York County.

Emergency crews were called to the home on Firefox Lane around 8:45 a.m. on Friday.

Lt. Jason Loper, the Acting Chief of the Fairview Township Police Department says they believe the woman stabbed her son in the neck, and then stabbed herself.

"Our officers arrived they found a 36-year-female with a stab wound to the chest as well as 2-and-a-half year old male child who also had injuries to his neck," Loper said.

Loper says they were originally called to the home for a self-inflicted stab wound.

Both the woman and child were flown to Hershey Medical Center. Police say the child has non-life threatening injuries and is expected to survive.  The mother's condition is not known at this time.

They are not speculating on why this happened but are working on theory that this was an attempted homicide/suicide.

"It appears mother may have intended to kill the child  and kill herself but its is still being investigated,"Loper said.

Police say the two lived at the home. No one else was home at the time the stabbing happened, officials say.

Officers arrived and found Candis Bradshaw, 36, with a stab wound to her chest. The officers applied clotting agents and other first aid measures until EMS arrived.

A short time later, the officers discovered that Bradshaw’s 2-year-old son had two lacerations, each several inches long, on both sides of his neck.

A Fairview Township Officer provided medical care to the woman until help arrived.  "Our officers trained in first aid.  I  can say the one officer was trying to do first aid to the mother.  I'm not going to go into the extent of what he was doing but he was attempting to assist," Loper said.

Police believe the woman used a kitchen knife to stab her son and herself.

At this time, it appears that the child’s injuries are not life-threatening. The current status of Bradshaw's injuries is unknown.

Due to statements and evidence obtained at the scene, it appears that all of the injuries were inflicted by Bradshaw.

Police are still investigating this matter, including looking into any mental health issues that may have contributed to this incident.

Criminal charges may follow after appropriate medical and psychological treatments are completed.
Fairview Township police removed multiple  bags of evidence from the Foxfire Lane home today.

Inside one of those bag may have been a kitchen knife, which is what police say was used in the double stabbing.UPDATE: Police investigate attempted murder-suicide in Fairview Twp., York Co.
