HARRISBURG -- A Harrisburg city police officer under investigation for misusing funds for Harrisburg's Police Athletic League says she's innocent.

This incident is not the first time Jennie Jenkins has been in trouble. In 2010 she left her car unlocked and her gun was stolen.

In a statement to CBS 21 News, Jenkins said, "I'm innocent of these allegations. I'm looking forward to clearing my name."

Harrisburg spokesperson Bob Philbin says Jenkins is suspended with pay.
The Harrisburg Police Department and the state attorney general's office are investigating her for misusing funds for PAL.

PAL's mission statement on the website reads: "The mission of the Harrisburg PAL is to provide outstanding revitalization effort especially through youth crime prevention programming and law enforcement efforts.”

Masai Lawson has been to an event Jenkins held for PAL.

"All I can tell you is she did a great job. The kids who were around her loved her, the people that were around her supported her," Lawson said.

"I mean everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I wouldn't have a response until the due diligence was done," said Beth O'Brien, a Harrisburg resident.

Harrisburg Council Vice President Eugenia Smith believes this could be about misappropriation of funds and said that Jenkins may have needed more training on the financial side of things.

"I think officer Jenkins has a good heart. She really wanted to do what was good for the children in this community and she had great passion for the work that she did," Smith said.

PAL was revived by Mayor Linda Thompson and then Officer Jenkins took over the lead.
