HARRISBURG -- A bank robbery this morning led to what would have been a very expensive cab-ride getaway.

Swatara Township police announced they have arrested Jason Butler of Williamsport on robbery charges stemming from an incident around 11 a.m. today at the Belco Community Credit Union on Paxton Street.

Butler entered the bank and demanded money from a teller. He then fled the bank on foot with an unknown amount of cash and hailed a taxi to leave the area.

He then switched cabs and told the drive to take him to Williamsport -- a distance of between 90 and 110 miles, depending on the route.

Police obtained a description of Butler and information on the cab. They learned the cab was traveling north on U.S. 11/15 in Perry County. When police caught up with the cab, it was near Angie's Restaurant in Watts Township. The driver yielded to the trooper's flashing lights and sirens and pulled over to the side of the road.

Butler then forced the cabbie out of the cab and fled on foot. Multiple troopers chased him and ultimately took him into custody near Liverpool.

He is in Dauphin County Central Booking Center awaiting preliminary arraignment.Williamsport man arrested in Liverpool after robbing Harrisburg bank
