GLEN ROCK -- The investigation continues into what caused a home in York County to explode Monday night, killing a woman trapped inside.

The York County Coroner's office has identified the victim as Brenda Jean Smith, 48, who lived in the home.

The home is in the 3000 block of Sticks Road in Conewago Township, near Glen Rock.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud boom and some said they could even feel the ground shake. Will Mintscheff lives nearby.

I saw a glow in the sky, like there was a fire, Mintscheff said. He says he got to the home within minutes.

Of course by the time I got here, it was fully engulfed in flames. Didnt seem like it took that long to happen," he added.

State police were called to the home around 9 p.m.

Water supply for firefighting efforts was challenging because of the rural nature of the area.

Once the fire was under control, investigators could begin combing through the rubble. Not much was left standing of the house or on the property, except for one wall and a flag pole.

Two cars on the property were heavily damaged as well.

Around 2:30 a.m., a body was removed from the home.

The victim lived on the bottom floor of the home. Mintscheff described her as nice and friendly with the family.

I don't think you can make sense of this, he said. Hopefully fire police can do a thorough investigation and find out exactly what happened."

State police have turned the property back over to the owners and family, but they continue to investigate what caused the explosion and fire.Woman killed in York County fire identified as resident of home
