ELIZABETHTOWN -- Helping stray dogs is a never-ending mission for Hershey Bears defenseman Tyson Strachan.

Strachan, along with his girlfriend Kate Ankoviak, and several Hershey Bears players were in Elizabethtown on Tuesday, taping short promotional videos urging local hockey fans to adopt dogs from Pitties.Love.Peace, a shelter located within the walls of Playful Pups Retreat.

Of particular interest to Strachan and Ankoviak? Two playful pit bulls named Butler and Critter; each has been at the shelter for more than a year and half and need quality homes.

"I think, a lot of times, for whatever reason, there's certain dogs that somehow get overlooked in the system and they end up being here (for a long time)," said Strachan.

Strachan and Ankoviak formed their own organization called Strachan's Strays, which raises both awareness and money for the no-kill shelter.

The videos will feature the dogs with some of Strachan's teammates, like David Leggio, Michael Latta, Nate Schmidt and Steve Oleksy, and should appear soon on the scoreboard during upcoming Bears games at GIANT Center.

Once the spots air, Ankoviak is hoping the dogs will finally find homes.

"They're so sweet and they've been here forever, so we want to highlight them and obviously get them homes," added Ankoviak.
