Stronger, faster Holmes ready for pro day

HARRISBURG -- It's more than just a makeover for Anthony Holmes. He's transformed himself into a definite NFL prospect.

Holmes, a Harrisburg High product who played safety at the University of Akron, will perform in front of professional scouts on Friday at Akron's pro day.

He's now bigger, stronger and faster after training in Harrisburg under the guidance of Ryan Mackes; and working alongside athletes like Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Danny Lansanah at Harrisburg High School's football field house.

Holmes played in 12 games for the Zips in 2013, making 55 tackles and intercepted two passes.

"It's not about where you go, it's about what you do when you get there," said Holmes on Wednesday during an interview with CBS 21 News Sports Director Jason Bristol. "The smaller the school, it just gives you a bigger opportunity to shine."

Mackes believes an NFL team will definitely give him a shot. In fact, Holmes already looks like a pro player -- thanks to all the hard work he's put in for his one big shot.

"It's been exciting -- when he really starts to feel (the change) and he's hitting the numbers that I want him to hit," said Mackes.

"He's even been surprising himself and I think that gives him a lot of confidence heading into Friday."
